  Author of
A Year in Prayer With Jesus

Welcome to the seventh stop on Author Marilynn Dawson's virtual book tour for her soon-to-be-released book, “A Year in Prayer With Jesus”.  Today we feature an excerpt from the introduction of her book:

Keeping in mind that The Lord's Prayer is not a recipe for answered prayer, it must be mentioned that the reverence and respect Christ teaches here echoes His own teachings later on in the same chapter.  For many, the focus in prayer is on themselves, on what they want, on what they think they need, on how they feel a situation should be handled, etcetera.  Praying this way is actually quite selfish and leaves no room for God to move in His own sovereign will.  Many of the formulae taught in prayer workshops are aimed at getting precisely what the pray-er wants, rather than what God wants.

The idea of seeking what God desires is not only foreign, but contrary to the name-it-claim-it and word faith teachings still going around out there.

My Pastor once referred to this mindset as having a business relationship with God.  I would go one step further to calling it a consumerism or materialistic relationship with God.  The business mantra “What's in it for me?” places “me” squarely up front and centre, with God standing outside the circle dressed in servant whites seemingly waiting on the next demand by Sir Lord and Lady Human.  The common analogy is that of treating God like the proverbial genie in the sky, or as I often refer to the concept, a slot machine in the clouds.  Pull the lever and pray you get the jackpot!

A person coming to The Lord's Prayer with a self-centred focus will tend to focus on the “give me” bits and skim over the “Your will be done” bits.  Consequently, in today's society, truly coming to an understanding of the nature of this prayer is a challenge.  This prayer takes the focus off the person and places it on God.  It turns the concept of prayer into a conversation and a respectful conversation at that.  It turns the concept of a prayer closet into intimate alone-time with just you and the Lover of your soul spending time in each other's presence, talking about what is on your hearts, etcetera.  This is a prayer of relationship.

HEATHER DAY GILBERT, AUTHOR INTERVIEW

Welcome
Heather Day Gilbert
Author of
The Murder in the Mountain Series
Miranda Warning
#1 in the series

1.   I see your book is a series of mysteries, tell us about them.
I'm excited to launch this new series of mysteries set in the mountains of West Virginia (aptly named A Murder in the Mountains Series). Miranda Warning is the first book in the series, and in it, we're introduced to amateur sleuth Tess Spencer and her lawyer husband, Thomas. Many of the small-town characters will recur throughout the series; in particular, Tess' family. Her in-laws live right next door. I'm particularly fond of her mother-in-law, Nikki Jo, who is just a force of nature.

2.  Tess seems like a gal that can take care of herself, does she reflect your own life?
I do like portraying somewhat fearless female characters, but Tess has her foibles and issues, just like we all do. While all her issues may not be my issues, I love diving deep into her character and finding out what makes her tick. It's why I love writing in first-person.

3.  What do you want people to take away from your series?
Mostly, I want them to enjoy unraveling the mystery, while getting a taste of modern-day West Virginia. I also want them to feel they "know" Tess and her family and friends. Sort of like Mitford, only with murders. :) I also love portraying realistic marriages, and Thomas and Tess have a great one. However, they haven't been married long and are still learning how to get along and smooth those rough edges.

4. Give us a glimpse into the second book in the series and when will it be out.
The second book will be titled Trial by Twelve, and it's based on that quote that it's better to be tried by twelve than taken out by six (pallbearers). In other words, better to kill someone in self-defense and stand trial than to hesitate and wind up dead yourself. This book will be set in a spa in the mountains.

5. How has being a Christian influenced your writing?
I write everything from a Christian worldview. That doesn't mean I'm inserting sermonettes into the mouths of my characters, though. I prefer watching characters make choices that reflect the good/bad choices I see people making in life (and the ones I've made myself), and then show how things pan out for them. But my characters do often wrestle with tough questions about their faith. Tess will in particular as she had a rough childhood. I want my books to be accessible for both Christians and non-believers, very much like Mitford.

6.  How can we get a copy?
You can find Miranda Warning on Amazon in softcover and for Kindle here.

Thanks so much for letting me visit  today!

Welcome to
Joseph Edward Kellner
author of

Quarter to 12

Joseph, what’s the name of your book and why did you title it that way?
The name of my book and also my short film was titled “Quarter to 12” is because this is the exact moment I had awoken from my NDE.  And the exact moment I heard the Holy Spirit talk to me. He talked to me, I heard the Holy Spirit with my ears, not in my mind or in my heart but with my ears.

Why do you think you were  "chosen" for a near death experience?
I feel God wanted to use me here on this earth. To preach, minister to others. And to preform Charity.

Is it important to tell the world about your experience?
After it happened I was telling everyone what I saw and the message the Virgin Mary told me to tell others. People would look at me as if I was crazy.  I would hurt for a while but as time grew on and I received my spiritual gifts, and I became more knowledgeable from Jesus what people thought did not matter to me. I was a messenger. That’s it I am just a messenger to all now. There is a heaven and there is a Hell. There is good and bad on this earth and it is a constant battle my friend.  I tell people this. I can feel peoples pain and sorrows now. I can feel people want to tell me
there problems. When I look at people now I see them as souls, yes I see a human form male and female. But now when I talk to others I feel it is a conversation of two souls linking up for knowledge or for condolence. I can see spirits or souls in transition from one level to another now. My level of discernment is very strong. My faith in Jesus is has grown very strong.

What were the parts of your experience that were meant only for you?
All of the experience was meant for me, every part of it. Every part of that experience is used in my daily life now. As if
the experience where tools to use for a future meaning.

What were the parts of your experience that were meant for the world?
All of the experience was meant for all. Especially what the Virgin Mary told me to tell everyone.
    1. Ask yourself each and every day what I am doing for my fellow man or woman in my professional or daily life.
    2. Suicide is not an option.
    3. Be aware what you say and how you say it for you may influence others.

How has your experience changed the way you live?
Yes it has my friend. I no longer sleep anymore; my sleep is usually from 10; 00pm to 2; 00am. That’s one thing that has changed. Prayer is constant in my life. Giving of my time to listen to others and also answering questions about what happened to me. Helping people in the need of the Holy Spirit and praying for the sick and dying. I gave my life up to the Lord and my life since has been very supernatural in the whole essence of the word my friend.  I am careful of what I think, say and do to others also.

Did it change how you look at death?
Yes it did there is either Heaven or Hell it is up to you. It is your choice. I don’t do what I do now to get into heaven. Although I was imprinted in the back of my mind. Hopefully I will be able to go back to heaven one day. I have learned to live for today and not yesterday, Tomorrow will be here if we like it or not.

Welcome

Cari Schaeffer,
Author of
Faith, Hope, Love, and

Chocolate

1. What is the genre of your book?
It’s Christian inspirational women’s fiction.

2. What was the motivation behind writing this story?
It started out with my love of reading really good stories. I can read a novel a day when a book really captures my attention. I would look at the title of a book, be intrigued, read the blurb about it, be even more intrigued, and then get the book. What I found, however, is that more and more authors are resorting to filling their pages with obscene language and situations that I find deeply offensive. The plots may have merit, but when it’s pockmarked with filth, I lose interest and feel like I’ve been duped into supporting that with my purchase. So I decided to write the kind of story I would love to read.

3. Are there any parallels in your own life with the main character, Faith?
There are some – I grew up in a poor, single mom family. Just like every other woman out there in America, I also have struggled with my self-worth. The depth of Faith’s challenges is her own, however, I have come across a large number of women in the past number of years that can relate very easily to Faith.

4. Who are you trying to reach with the story and message?
There are so many broken women that refuse to see themselves through God’s eyes and heart rather than a mirror and a scale. I want to reach these women and help them be healed through His love. I want to reach every woman out there that struggles with their own self-worth and the damage that our lives and experiences can cause us. We are worth so much more than we can possibly imagine and yet the world beats us down every single day, if we allow it to.

5. Do you have any other novels in the works?
Absolutely! I am working on at least three other novels right now. Two of them are concepts at this point and I am actively writing one. Writing is a very creative and deeply personal work of the mind and the heart. I want to only provide a final product that I can be proud of and confident in. It takes not only the ability to write an engaging story, but also a lot of prayer that God will be honored in what I write. Jesus used story-telling to convey life principles, so I humbly follow in His footsteps with my novels.

5 Star review:
This book made me laugh, cry and most of all renew my faith.  I am so eager for
more! This book was as real and true as can be.  I felt every ache Faith had
with her struggles, the closeness of friendship amongst the women in the book
and the need to pray along with Julie and Ben.  At this point in my life this
book is just what I needed.  Please tell me you have more on the way?! Great Job

Welcome to Marilynn Dawson
Author of
Dressed for Eternity
her latest book
and
Mom's Little Black Book for Graduates

Picture
Tell us a bit about yourself.

I've been writing in some form since I was a child, beginning with fictional short stories, puppet plays and skits to devotional-style journaling and poetry. I am a Mother of two graduated kids, a cat and a gerbil. I work as a computer repair tech/webmaster during the day when I'm not figuring out how to market my books and when I'm not doing soundtech events for various groups at my church.

Can you give short summaries of your books?

“Becoming the Bride of Christ: A Personal Journey” is my personal story of healing and restoration offered in a way that lets the reader apply the lessons God's taught me to their own life. 14 chapters span 6 volumes and there is a Leader's Guide if people wish to engage in the content as a group study with homework.

“Mom's Little Black Book: Godly Advice for the High School Graduate” was written for my own graduating teenagers in 2013 (yes, they both graduated last June), but made available to the public for those parents and pastors who wish to offer their graduating youth tidbits of advice that will go with them into adulthood. Scriptures, charts, and example budget sheets are included for the graduating youth to use as guides.

“Dressed for Eternity” seeks to answer the question, “How does God adorn His Bride in the Scriptures?” The answer to this question takes the reader through Scripture, history, archaeology and even the New Jerusalem as we learn about Aaron's Breastplate, the New Jerusalem, and other passages of Scripture.

What genre are your books?

My books are all non-fiction, primarily Christian/Spiritual growth/Personal Growth.

What can a reader expect every time she picks up one of your books?

They can expect a fair bit of Scripture, as well as exhortational writing.

Who is your books’ audience?

My books are primarily aimed at the person who has been a Christian for awhile, who wants to go deeper in their faithwalk with God.

Have you received a particularly memorable reader response?

Not a reader response per se, but at my “Dressed for Eternity” Book launch bazaar and fashion show back in February, the winner of the evening's grand prize basket, came up to me afterward and told me that my event had inspired her as she seeks to please God with her fashion choices. That totally made my night to hear that!

What’s something you wish you’d known earlier that might have saved you some time/frustration in the publishing business?

I wish that I'd known years ago just how simple it is to put a decent quality book together!  While it's true the self-publishing space hasn't been around for much more than the early 2000's, it would have been nice even back then to discover the tools I could use to get published.  I've actually created a small ebook on the subject, “Practical Thoughts on Becoming an Author”.  I turned it into a workshop and from there into an e-course that I'll be offering shortly.

Are you planning another book? If so, what’s the story about?

My next book is a prayer guide using the Lord's Prayer as an outline for 365 days.  The prayer has been broken down into 7 points, and each of those points has been given a unique Scripture verse and prayer prompt for the entire year.

How can readers find you on the Internet?

Welcome Carol Shelton Moye

Author of:

Psalms is the Key of my Life

and

Unfailing Love
I've read some of Carol's Psalms; they are beautiful and put into  modern language that brings it into the present day.  A truly remarkable collection and beautiful to read and meditate on.  Thanks Carol for your beautiful work.

Picture
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?

I grew up in Pittsburgh, PA. I was raised by a mother who loved the Lord and raised us in the church. My father didn’t attend church, but was just as fervent in his beliefs. My Christian background made me the person I am and is always present in my writing, whether it be fiction or inspirational.

When did you first start writing?

I wrote tons of poetry in high school. When my children were elementary school age, I taught a creative writing course in the summers that reignited my writing flame. I continued to infuse creative writing into courses I taught throughout my career as a public school teacher. After retiring last year, I finally had time to spend on my own writing.

What's the story behind your latest book?

My latest book, “Unfailing Love”, is the second volume in the “Psalms in the Key of my Life” series. My goal is to personalize the psalms and make them relevant to modern readers. The first volume, “Psalms in the Key of my Life” covers Psalms 1-50. “Unfailing Love”, covers Psalms 51-100. I am in the beginning stages of Volume III. It will be called, “Praise the Lord”.

What was the hardest part about writing your book?

For those of you who are familiar with the psalms, the middle section is not easy reading, and except for a few of them, is not very inspirational. There is much about sin, hiding from enemies, Israeli-Arab conflicts, Jewish history, etc., I struggled to find inspiration and relevance. There were points I wanted to give up. Each time, God gave me exactly what I needed. It was an amazing experience.

Is there a message in your book that you want your readers to grasp?

Yes, it’s contained in the title. No matter what you are going through, God is there with his unfailing love. Just trust him to pull you through.

What motivated you to become an indie author?

My daughter is a writer. I watched her get rejection letter after rejection letter. I paid attention to the indie movement. I’ve got professional software and the training to use it. I have a fairly good command of the English language. I learn quickly. Why should I give someone else the power and the money to do what I can do myself? I will admit, self-publishing is very hard work. There are times I would like to just hand my book to someone else, but being the control freak I am, I know I must do it myself.

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?

Having readers tell me that were inspired by my writing, that the psalms came alive in a new way for them.

What writing advice to you have for other aspiring writers?

Don’t let the opinions of others discourage you. Listen to advice, but stay true to your calling and your inner voice.

What do your fans mean to you?

They are like fuel for me.

 Who are your favorite authors?

Christian authors: Max Lucado, Anne Lamott,

Secular: Toni Morrison, Nikki Giovanni, Faye Kellerman, John Grisham, Carol Wyer

What inspires you to get out of bed each day?

I’m working on a few short stories. Often my characters get me up. I’m excited to continue their stories.

When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?

I have way more hobbies than I have time for; I am an amateur nature photographer, and an amateur musician. I also love to grow flowers. I also enjoy spending time with teenagers as a tutor, mentor or however else I am needed.

Interaction with angels

Picture:  An angel comforting Jesus, by
Carl Heinrich Bloch, 1865–1890.

“Forget not to show love unto strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.--
Hebrews 13:2

”The New Testament includes many interactions and conversations between angels and humans. For instance, three separate cases of angelic interaction deal with the births of John the Baptist and Jesus Christ. In Luke 1:11, an angel appears to Zechariah to inform him that he will have a child despite his old age, thus proclaiming the birth of John the Baptist.[32] And in Luke 1:26 the archangel Gabriel visits the Virgin Mary in the Annunciation to foretell the birth of Jesus Christ.[33] Angels then proclaim the birth of Jesus in the Adoration of the shepherds in Luke 2:10.

Angels appear later in the New Testament. According to Matthew 4:11, after Jesus spent 40 days in the desert, "...the devil left him and, behold, angels came and ministered to him." In Luke 22:43 an angel comforts
Jesus Christ during the Agony in the Garden.[35] In Matthew 28:5 an angel speaks at the empty tomb, following the Resurrection of Jesus and the rolling back of the stone by angels.[36] Hebrews 13:2 reminds the reader that they may "entertain angels unaware".

Since the completion of the New Testament, the Christian tradition has continued to include reported interactions with angels. For instance, in 1851
Pope Pius IX approved the Chaplet of Saint Michael based on the 1751 reported private revelation from archangel Michael to the Carmelite nun Antonia d'Astonac.[38] And Pope John Paul II emphasized the role of angels in Catholic teachings in his 1986 address titled "Angels Participate In History Of Salvation", in which he suggested that modern mentality should come to see the importance of angels.

As recently as the 20th century, visionaries and mystics have reported interactions with angels. In a biography of Saint
Gemma Galgani written by Venerable Germanus Ruoppolo, Galgani stated that she had spoken with her guardian angel.

  • Gabriel (archangel) (translation: the strength of God), performs acts of justice and power *
  • Raphael (translation: God Heals), God's healing force
  • Uriel (translation: God is my light), leads us to destiny
  • Samael (translation: the severity of God), angel of death—see also Malach HaMavet (translation: the angel of death)
  • Sandalphon (translation: bringing together), battles Samael and brings mankind together

*These are the only two angels to be mentioned by name in the Hebrew Bible; the rest are from extra-biblical tradition.

Near death experiences

Hello everyone - Madeline here:

I would like to put out a word of caution when it comes to reading near death experiences.  Since publishing this book, I joined a number of "near death experience" groups on facebook.  I was shocked to find out that darkness and light are both involved with these experiences and sometimes in the most subtle ways.  I have since chosen to separate from those groups.

My brother had a near death experience that took him on a dangerous path for many years and a great deal of harm was done to many people.  He was the only survivor out of 3, in a car crash.  He was a non-believer.  His experience was that his spirit was being raised like cattle and that he would be fed to an energy source when he died.  After experiencing this, he saw no reason to live or do anything good and it took him on a very dark path.  He ended up in prison.  After many years he did find his way back to the light and I am pleased to say that he was a born again Christian at his death and I loved him very much.

I am telling you this to warn you.  Both forces can be involved with these near death experiences.  If you search for darkness, you will surely find it.  If you search for the light through Jesus Christ, you will find Him.  And your life will never be the same.

I can testify to the reality of Jesus Christ through my own personal experiences.  He is real!  Perhaps we were meant to write this book for many reasons beyond just the testimony of Andy Fannon who had this near death experience.  Please be careful when exploring near death experiences.  If it leads you away from Jesus Christ and the Almighty God, you should be very careful.  In the Garden of Eden, the snake deceived Eve by telling her 90% truth, but adding in 10% deception.  Don't be deceived by some of these near death experiences.  If it doesn't agree 100% with the Bible, it is from the darkside and meant to deceive you and lead you along a dangerous path.  I hope you enjoy our ebook and if you have any questions, please comment here.  May God bless and keep you through his son Jesus Christ.
